"Great Work by Brigade"

Evening Echo, Friday, June 20, 1980

The thousands of Cork folk who witnessed the flames shooting high through the roof of Princess Street Market in Cork last night will find it hard to believe the good news that much of the market was saved; and that at most of the stalls, especially those at the Grand Parade end, business was proceeding normally today.

Six units of the Cork Fire Brigade from the Anglesea Street and Watercourse Road depots fought the blaze with great success.

Fire Chief, Capt., C. Garvey, who directed the operation with Second Officer Tom O’Leary, said the blaze was brought under control within 30 minutes.
