"Tubridy Show"

On the morning of December 8th, 2009 RTE Radio’s “Tubridy Show” broadcasted live from the Farmgate Café.

Just over two weeks earlier Cork City had been devastated by unprecedented floods, causing millions of euros worth of damage.

Whilst the bustle of early morning trade was taking place around The Fountain below, Tubridy’s broadcast signaled that Cork and the English Market were very much open for business.

Tom Durcan took to the balcony and the air-waves to describe to the nation the special atmosphere of the English Market in the run-up to Christmas and to recount some of the seasonal Cork traditions (including spiced beef) that have passed from one generation to the next across the centuries.
