The visit to the market was part of a week–long trip for the Ford family that included a visit to the ancestral Ford home near Ballinascarthy, Co. Cork.

Bill Ford’s great-great-grandfather, William Ford, emigrated from Cobh on a famine ship to the US in 1847.  Henry Ford was born in Michigan in 1863 and at age 40, in 1903, he set up the Ford Motor Company. 99 years ago, Henry Ford made a trip back to his ancestral home in Cork, paving the way for the establishment of Henry Ford & Son Limited in Cork five years later, in 1917 - the first Ford factory outside of the US. It remains the only Ford business in the world to bear the full name of the company’s founder.
